OUR MISSION:
"Based on the belief that education is the foundation and channel for permanent change in attitudes and behaviors, the Katie Brown Educational Program promotes respectful relationships by teaching alternatives to relationship violence."
OUR WORK:
KBEP has developed an innovative and interactive curriculum which is taught by our trained educators to students and individuals in traditional classroom settings in public, private and parochial schools throughout Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
In addition, KBEP teaches in nontraditional settings such as summer camps, after-school programs, group homes, correctional facilities and parenting classes. The KBEP curriculum teaches students to identify the many types of violence, and empowers them to develop the skills necessary to prevent violence from becoming a factor in their relationships. As an important part of this work, the KBEP educators help students to envision a healthier view of relationships built on trust, honesty, and mutual respect, a model that students are encouraged to apply to their existing relationships (learn more).
WHAT'S NEW AT KBEP:
OUR SINCERE THANK YOU TO ALL WHO VOTED FOR KBEP
IN THE CHASE COMMUNITY GIVING PROGRAM INITIATIVE.
Even though we did not receive any funding from this initiative, it was a lot of fun being a part of this great opportunity. Thank you to everyone who voted for us and for your continued support in our mission to teach our youth alternatives to relationship violence.
KBEP is keeping busy this summer teaching at summer camps, group homes and
other community programs. During our summer programming, KBEP educators
present activities and games which allow for more informal learning about
this important subject.
Here are a couple of quotes from students who have received summer programming:
"The most important thing I learned was you don't always have to be together and some things your partner says may seem like they care but really they are being controlling."
"The most important thing I learned was about dating violence so I can turn myself away from said situations in the future."
